While searching for an interviewee who has interest and understanding in the field of computer science and art, I approached Carol Wang '21, who is working on a signature project about making computer science more accessible for high school students.
Some of the questions and responses I've received from this interview are listed below:
How do you my project connects art and technology? Do you think it has fulfilled the purpose of an interdisciplinary project?
Carol: I can definitely see a connection between computer science and art. This is a great example of what an interdisciplinary project is like, combining the two.
Did you see environmental factors in my project? Carol: The water usage theme is apparent, although colors such as blue can be added to further advocate your purpose of water conservation. I like your first draft of the final product, where there's a spiral pattern, showing the form of a water or ripple. The theme of saving water is clear to me. Do you feel engaged with my project? (i.e. Is the art interactive) Carol: Yes! In addition to the video that you will make as part of your final product, a link to your code to experience the interactive sections would be useful for others to experience such engagement. For example, they could try to move their mouse for the ripple/spiral interactive part. There is a good mix of interactive and still work for your audience to experience your product, as well as to observe them. What are some improvements you think I can make to my project so far? Carol: Perhaps connects your ideas and code to make your saving water theme more apparent. What do you think I can further do with my project?
Carol: Trying to make the video to experiment with colors would be a good idea to see what colors matches your theme. This process allows you to make the final product more visually engaging, though the sine graph that moves periodically in black and white is cool too. Using gradients, or different shades of a single color could bring out layers and spacial features better.
You could also create instructions for people to read of the project and what you can do with the project. Organize your project for people to know your purpose of creating it is, and how it connects to the theme of saving water.
For your video, consider adding captions to still images or mixing interactive parts and still pictures in order to make it less dull, though with the music in the back it will be quite interesting as well. Also try to zoom in and out of the image for movement with the still images.
